Welcome to Glen Ellyn
The picture of prosperous tranquility just west of Chicago.
Considered one of the best small towns in all of Illinois, Glen Ellyn is an idyllic community just 23 miles west of Chicago. Full of one-of-a-kind boutiques, incredible eateries, and a strong dedication to preserving its past, this affluent town is the perfect mix of suburban serenity and urban convenience.
The community was initially settled in 1833 by brothers Morgan and Ralph Babcock. By the 1840s, however, the town had already built up a general store, blacksmiths shops, an inn, and a Baptist church. This growth steadily continued until 1849, when a railroad was built through the town. In 1890, local residents discovered a mineral spring. To take advantage of this natural wonder, the community began to advertise itself as a health resort town, and its first lake hotel opened in 1892.
Nowadays, the town is considered one of the most prosperous in the area, with beautiful homes and pristine local parks. It’s the perfect place for families, young professionals, and even retirees to settle down.
